What you can expect from the Green Homes Grant with Thrift Energy

Many people are eager to make eco-friendly improvements to their homes, but the biggest barrier to doing so can often be the cost. This is why, for helping to fund a raft of green projects, including installing new insulation, heating and glazing, the UK Government has unveiled the Green Homes Grant scheme. You can apply right here, with Thrift.

Under the scheme, eligible homeowners in England can apply for vouchers that would cover up to two-thirds of an eco-friendly improvement’s cost. Our workers at Thrift Energy are certified to undertake the improvement work itself and so help you to rein in not only your household’s carbon footprint but also its day-to-day energy costs.

Are you eligible to make use of the Green Homes Grant?

Though the scheme was originally launched in September, a tight six-month deadline applied for anyone seeking to obtain vouchers, redeem them and have the green improvements completed. However, that deadline has since been extended to the end of March 2022.

Still, you should read the small print carefully to verify that the scheme is indeed open to you. Almost anyone who owns their own home can benefit – including homeowners who are on long leaseholds and shared ownership.

If you rent private rented or social domestic housing, you won’t be able to apply yourself but could investigate whether your landlord would be willing to do so, as they themselves would be eligible. MoneySavingExpert also outlines a few other exceptions to eligibility.

What are the scheme’s main terms and conditions?

For energy-saving measures chosen from a range specified by the Government, homeowners in England can, from the scheme, obtain as much as £5,000 to go towards the cost. Households deemed “low-income” under the scheme can have the work’s cost fully covered up to £10,000.

To qualify for the financial support, you must first arrange for at least one “primary” improvement to be installed. The work classified in this way includes solid wall, cavity wall and underfloor insulation – all of which our own experienced tradespeople can provide for homeowners right across the UK.

Then, you can select a “secondary” improvement, for which support will also be available. The “secondary” options include upgrading from single to double or triple glazing and installing heating controls; these examples, too, are improvements we are trained to deliver.

We can be by your side as the work gets underway

Once you have decided what eligible green improvements you would like for your residential property, you can get in touch with a company certified to provide those improvements. That company could be our own, Thrift Energy, which has registered with TrustMark.

Our association with TrustMark verifies our ability to install energy-saving measures to high standards. It has also enabled us to apply to become a Green Homes Grant installer. In this capacity, we can undertake work in properties under any COVID-19 restrictions.

So, rather than Googling, say, “cavity wall insulation installers near me”, you can phone us on 0800 689 3415 to discuss receiving a quote, which we can then provide remotely for your comfort.
