Powering forward: Thrift Energy’s vision for the future

A message from our Commercial Director, Josh, on how Thrift Energy is shaping the future of energy efficiency through award-winning social housing projects, innovative training programmes and ambitious growth plans with sustainability at their core.

As we venture further into the New Year, I find myself reflecting on what has been an extraordinary journey for Thrift Energy. As we enter our 13th year of operations, I’m immensely proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about where we’re heading. I’d like to share with you our achievements, our ambitious plans and, most importantly, our unwavering commitment to creating a more energy-efficient future for everyone.

2024: a year of landmark achievements

At Thrift Energy, our strategy is to grow sustainably and stimulate local economic growth to drive social value, so one of our biggest achievements in 2024 was our installation work with Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP) and E.ON, which you can read about here.

We worked hard to develop a local supply chain and upskill our staff to work on this scheme, providing job security as well as new roles within the business. The scheme was recognised with two major awards (Social Housing Award & Large-Scale Project of the Year), which is testament to the exceptional dedication of the teams involved and the transformative impact these installations have had on residents’ lives through warmer homes and reduced energy bills.

Many of our achievements last year come down to an increased focus on internal growth and development. We recognise that our people are our greatest asset, and we have made a significant investment in their future. This includes funding and enrolling them on certified qualifications up to foundation degree level. I hope that by creating career pathways for our employees, we’re building a team that’s not just skilled, but passionate about renewable energy.

Our roadmap for 2025 and beyond

The first quarter of 2025 is already shaping up to be a busy one! We’re continuing our successful partnership with LHP in Grimsby, while simultaneously delivering External Wall Insulation (EWI) projects in Walsall for Walsall Housing Group and in Basildon. We’re also wrapping up significant projects including the Hungate Court EWI programme for Beyond Housing and internal wall insulation initiatives in North Tyneside, both of which should be completed by the end of March.

But that’s just the beginning. We’re also expanding our portfolio with exciting Photovoltaic (PV) projects across multiple locations and rolling out Home Upgrade Grant programmes in Chesterfield and Leicestershire, installing multiple measures including insulation top ups, air source heat pumps, Solar PV and High Heat Retention storage heaters.

Personally, I’m looking forward to continuing to work with our existing client base on SHDF3 (Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 3) and the Warm Homes Grant Local Authority Scheme across the country. We have a 12-month training programme which will include NVQ level upskilling to both onsite and back-office staff to develop further understanding of retrofit and aid our employees’ career progression, both of which will help us deliver an even higher standard of service to our clients while maintaining our reputation as one of the country’s leading turnkey installation contractors.

Building a sustainable future

At Thrift Energy, our priorities are to make people’s homes warmer, to save them money and to help reduce their carbon footprint. That last point is important, as it supports the UK’s progress towards its net zero goals. As we work on schemes that are mapped out by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the projects we have planned for 2025 align with these targets and contribute towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. We’re also pleased to be helping communities and businesses to achieve their net zero ambitions by delivering energy efficient improvements and accessing available grants to subsidise the costs.

Our vision moving forward rests on three fundamental pillars:

1. Education – we are committed to offering both career development opportunities to our staff and energy-saving advice to our customers.
2. Innovation – we are constantly exploring new products and systems to stay at the forefront of the industry.
3. Growth – we continue to sustainably grow our turnover and increase our market share.

Join the energy efficiency revolution

This will be followed up with leaflets and local lead generation. If you’re a charity, do get in touch. We work hard to help get people out of fuel poverty and would love more organisations to signpost people to us.

Finally, for businesses looking to contribute to the net zero revolution, I would recommend looking at solar PV. It’s a cost-effective solution that supports your climate change agendas while also reducing operational costs by generating electricity. This creates an ROI that can be utilised to reinvest into the business to aid further growth or increase shareholder value. As specialists and experienced installers, we encourage you to get ahead of the curve as peak generation is from March until the end of September.
