Will loft insulation make any difference to my bills?

Are you considering investing in loft insulation but wondering whether it’s really worth the cost? The answer is a resounding yes! (we know we’re biased but hear us out!) Installing loft insulation can make a significant difference to your bills, as well as your carbon footprint, comfort and even property value. Sound too good to be true? Let’s take a look…

During the past year, we’ve all witnessed how volatile energy prices can be. It’s been a stark reminder of how important it is to keep as much heat as we can within our homes. And you might be surprised to hear it, but your property’s loft space loses 25% of the heat you pay for.

By positioning a layer of insulated material in your loft, you prevent the movement of heated air through the space, trapping the heat inside your home. This helps you maintain a comfortable temperature within your property, so you don’t need to use your heating system as frequently (or at such a high temperature). In fact, loft insulation could save you up to £580* per year on your energy bills!

In addition to reduced bills, loft insulation has a whole host of other related benefits, including:

  1. Reduced carbon footprint. By reducing your energy usage, loft insulation can also help to reduce your carbon footprint. By preventing heat from escaping through the loft space, you’ll be responsible for burning fewer fossil fuels, and your carbon footprint will shrink. Your EPC rating is one of the best ways to see how environmentally friendly your home is. If it ranks lower in the charts than a pop bop that’s flopped, loft insulation is a great way of boosting it.
  2. Increased property value. Insulating your loft is an investment that can pay off in the long term. A well-insulated home is more attractive to potential buyers, which could add value to your property should you decide to sell in the future. At Thrift Energy, we use high-quality insulation materials that are designed to last, so you can be confident that your loft insulation will stand the test of time.
  3. Increased comfort. A well-insulated home is a more comfortable home because insulation helps to regulate the temperature, keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer. This means you can enjoy a more comfortable living space all year round. And there’s no need for air conditioning (something else that could bump up your bill – which we could all do without).
  4. Quick installation. Loft insulation is a relatively quick and easy process. It takes up to two hours to install (based on an average three-bedroom house), which means you can start enjoying the benefits of insulation right away, without a major disruption to your daily routine.
  5. Reduced noise pollution. Consider this one an added bonus. While it’s not the main reason most people choose to have loft insulation installed, it can actually provide some relief from noise pollution.

Loft insulation is a smart decision that can make a real difference to your energy bills. With the added benefits of reducing your carbon footprint and potentially adding value to your property, we think it’s a decision worth making. If your loft is accessible, free from damp or condensation problems, and there is no loft insulation already in place, your home is probably suitable for improving with loft insulation.
